Description
The U.S. Hotel in Tomales, built in 1877 to replace the previous structure, the Continental Hotel, which was destroyed by fire that year. The hotel accommodated travelers by railroad and by stagecoach. The U.S. Hotel was a popular destination for travelers on the Northwestern Pacific Railroad. During this time, Tomales was a rail hub servicing ranchers, dairy farmers, merchants, and vacationers alike.
