Description
Workmen dismantling the fireplace, walls and ceiling inside the El Miradero solarium. This space would be converted into a gallery and meeting space for the Brand Library from 1956 until 1969. In this photograph, much of the original decorative features can still be seen but are being altered, including interior leaded-glass windows, ceiling frame, clerestory windows, painted stencils, and the fireplace, which is almost in complete ruins. The doorway, on the right, into the original dining room, is also being torn down and drastically modified. The fountain, Boy with Dolphin, was a centerpiece in the solarium while the Brands lived in El Miradero, and was removed during the library renovation. The renovation took place during the mid-1950s, and the library opened in 1956. The Brand Library was once the home of Leslie C. Brand, and this room was originally the solarium. Title supplied by cataloger.
