Description
San Luis Rey Mission Church Landmark Plaque: The San Luis Rey Mission is located in Oceanside, California and was built in 1798. The current Mission church was begun in 1811 and finished in 1815. The church is in the traditional cross shape and contains a single bell tower. It was built from adobe, lime and timber. The plaque reads, “San Luis Rey Mission Church has been designated a Registered National historic Landmark under the provisions of the Historic Sites Act of August 21, 1935. This site possesses exceptional value in commemorating or illustrating the history of the United States. U.S. Department of the Interior National Park Service, 1970.”
