Description
Four unidentified men ride in an automobile similar to the first one driven in Turlock, California. They are parked on East Main Street beside the Vignolo Building. Note the width and shape of the front fenders of the car, designed to protect the passengers from flying mud and dirt the turning front tires might throw upwards. Charles Henry Geer brought the first car to Turlock on a Tuesday in 1905 as reported in the newspaper, "The Turlock Journal". He took possession of a new 1906 model Rambler touring car in San Francisco and after five hours actual running time, arrived back in Turlock. Reportedly "Charley" was in town the next day to give some of his friends their first ride in an 'auto'.
