Description
Known as the Jim Allen Hotel after James Allen had the building moved from Westport to Turlock in 1871. Lodging, a bar, and meals cooked by his wife Elizabeth were available by 1872. She continued the operation of the hotel after their divorce in 1881 and changed the name to the Turlock Hotel. John J. Vignolo and his wife purchased the hotel in 1904. The balcony visible beyond the covered buggy is the annex they added. The Turlock Hotel was replaced with a new brick building by 1909. It was named the Hotel Carolyn after the Vignolo's daughter.
