Description
The North Pacific Coast Railroad's Engine No. 8 departing the Cazadero station, circa 1900. Engine No. 8 was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1881, and used by the railroad until 1925. Officially named The San Rafael, but commonly known as The Bullet, this locomotive was used in the motion picture "Iron Horse" filmed in 1923. The North Pacific Coast Railroad, which opened in January 1875, carried redwood lumber, local dairy and agricultural products, express cars and passengers. It operated almost 93 miles of track which extended from a pier in Sausalito (connecting the line via ferry to San Francisco), northwest to Cazadero. In 1902 it was sold to the North Shore Railroad then in 1907 became part of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad.
