W. view of the Capistrano Mission ruins, 1936. A wooden gate is visible with a cross on top. Buildings with tiled roof are visible beyond the gate. The Mission was founded in 1776 with a large spurt in building occurring in 1794. Walls were made of adobe, roofs of heavy tile and floors of "mission" tile or packed earth.
