Description
Photo of intersection of L Street and Fresno Street with the Southern Methodist Church on the corner. Mill Ditch visible on Fresno Street in front of the church. This irrigation ditch was built in 1878 by Moses J. Church to power his Champion Flour Mill at the corner of Fresno and N streets. Ditch later walled by planks, braced with timbers, and spanned by narrow plank bridges. Mill Ditch was filled-in in March 1892 after public outcry of it being dangerous and unsightly.
