Description
The three people on the left side of the photograph are identified as: Elizabeth E. Allen (lady in the big hat), proprietor of the Turlock Hotel; Annie Mitchell Allen, her daughter-in-law (holding her son) and Stonewall Jackson Allen (holding the guitar), son of the owner. The hotel building was moved from Westport to Turlock in 1871-1872 by James Allen. It became the first hotel in Turlock offering lodging, home cooked meals (by Mrs. Allen), and refreshment in the bar. Elizabeth E. Allen remained as owner and operator of the hotel after 1881 when she and James Allen divorced.
