Description: The poster features drawings of three bamboo shoots placed within a red rectangular background that is bordered with black. To the left is a black/white photograph of a man and a young girl standing under a Jackson Street sign. The text states, "A lone bamboo doesn't come from Jackson St., net wt. 14 oz. (397 grams), history, poetry, shortstory, from George Leong, Book Party, Wed June 29 7:30, Jackson Street Gallery, 565 Jackson Street S.F., The Book: This book presents a deep, analytical description of Chinese-American reality...The author does not restrict himself to a personal confession of his own experience, but he generalizes. He does this without sacrificing the poignant, lyrical beauty in these pages. The book is a synthesis of various media: some narrative prose, poems, and a remarkable short story, better described by the author as "a tale". From the ground of the very (?) cultural and physical oppression which the people in this book have to suffer and are now experiencing, a very powerful expression of love emerges. The strength of this love as it grows within the consciousness of the poet makes this book an especially (?) poetic experience. The Author: George Leong is a poet, a musician, and a the organizer of the Writer's Workshop at the Kearny Street Workshop which constitutes an Asian American Art Collective in Chinatown, San Francisco.
