Description
This gold mine is located within the boundaries of Cuyamaca Rancho State Park and was one of the most productive gold mines in North County. It was found by William Skidmore in 1870. Skidmore, a Southern sympathizer, named the mine Stonewall for Confederate General Stonewall Jackson. The mine, which is no longer in use, produced several million dollars worth of gold, but no one is sure exactly how many.
