Description
The inscriptions, "KK", "Koike" and "28013" are painted on trunk and represent the family name and number assigned by the War Relocation Authority (WRA). The Koike family lived in Sacramento prior to World War II. Mr. Fukunosuke Koike arrived in the United States first. Mrs. Koginu Koike arrived later from Japan as a "Picture Bride." The family included two daughters (Masae and Sachiko) and a son (Hideo). Both Mr. and Mrs. Koike worked in the cannery industry for the Del Monte Corporation in Sacramento. Mr. Koike passed away prior to the evacuation of the family to the Walerga Assembly Center and Tule Lake Relocation Center. The family later transferred to Granada Relocation Center in Amache, Colorado, where Koginu married her second husband, Tomijiro. The family returned to Sacramento upon release from Granada Relocation Center.
