The United States cyclist in the center of the photograph is Thurlow Rogers. The U.S. cyclist on the right is Alexi Grewal. The racing jerseys of the U.S. cyclists are blue with white stars on them and have a vertical white-red-white stripe in the middle. The cyclists are being handed "musette" or food bags as they ride. The cyclist on the left side of the photograph is riding with no hands while he opens his, Thurlow Rogers is in the process of taking his from an official in a U.S. jersey, and Alexi Grewal and the rider behind him are in the process of drinking from their water bottles. There are spectators standing behind white meshed fencing at the edge of the racecourse and sitting on a slope covered with long grass and trees. At the top of the slide is a label with "84-008, Frame 064" typed on it. At the bottom of the slide is written "camjl 226" in pencil and, in red typescript, "22, Jul84H12."
