Description
Captain of the Royal Navy. Served on the H.M.S. Blossom which came to California (San Francisco and Monterey) in 1826-1827. Sketched with fellow officer Richard Beechey. Content/DescriptionLandscape with couple in foreground, buildings left and center, and masted ships in the bay at right, one of which is purported to be the H.M.S. Blossom on which Smyth served under Captain Frederick William Beechy. Smyth often sketched with fellow officer Richard Beechey during their voyage to the Pacific 1825-1828.
