Description
Given to the Tule Lake Relocation Center Block 19 Marathon Relay Team. From Page 3, TULEAN DISPATCH DAILY, April 12, 1943. "The Marathon Relay is scheduled for Sunday, April 18, with the course to extend approximately five miles, up to the top of Castle Rock Mountain and back again to the outdoor stage. Many prizes are being offered, including $95 in cash awards, cups to winning teams, and 2 bars of soap to each participant of the losing teams. The first prize is $30.00, the second, $20.00, the third, $10.00, and from fourth to tenth, inclusive $5.00 per team. The following is some of the changes in the rules: 1. Those under 18 years old may enter. 2. Blocks may add one or two persons from another block to form a team. However, they must be approved first by the Relay Committee at #1808-D before they are eligible to compete. Teams violating this ruling will be disqualified. Over 24 block teams have already entered the contest. As an added attraction, a 62-year old former marathon runner in Tokyo is to head the Block 72 aggregation."
