Description
Orange City Librarian Ethel Swanger stands on the balcony of the old Carnegie Library building, observing books being placed on conveyor belt in preparation of demolishing the building in order to construct a new one on the same site. The Carnegie Library, designed by architect C.B. Bradshaw, opened in 1908 and was demolished in 1961. The box containing the books is labelled "C.O.G." and is a wooden Consolidated Orange Growers citrus crate. The photo appeared in the Santa Ana Register in December 1959.
