Description
A closer view of the combine portion of a machine designed to cut, separate and sack wheat while being pulled through the fields. The cut stalks of wheat are pushed up into a chute that passes it to the thresher where the grain is separated out from the chaff. The grain travels through spouts to the sacking platform while the chaff is dropped to the ground. In this photo a man sits on the sun-shaded sacking platform known as the "doghouse". Two men stand below the pulleys and belts that operate the threshing mechanism. A fourth man stands next to two boys sitting on filled sacks of wheat. Four women wearing nice dresses and hats while sitting in a horse drawn surrey buggy that is pulled up close to the combine.
