Description
Color slide of a banner that reads "Go For the Gold" and was displayed during the Cycling Road Race of the 1984 Summer Olympic Games. The Cycling Road Race event took place in Mission Viejo, California. The banner is hanging from the edge of the roof of a house. The end of the banner is blocked from view by a tree, and the "G" in the word "Go" is blocked by the stripes of an American flag. There is a slump stone fence trimmed along the top with black wrought iron in front of the house from which the banner hangs. On top of this fence is a man and two young boys; they appear to be in the process of finding their "seat" to watch the race. In front of the fence are more spectators; most of them are standing on a slope that is covered with high shrubs and trees. Some are sitting in lawn chairs against the slump stone fence. In the immediate foreground of the photograph, part of the California flag and most of the American flag can be seen; they are hanging on flagpoles. There are also four small flags of South Korea that can be seen to the right of the American flag; the South Korean flags are on hand-held sticks. At the top of the slide is a label with "84-009, Frame 093" typed on it. At the bottom of the slide is written "camjl 236" in pencil and, in typescript, "17, Jul84H14."
