Description
Unidentified actors in the 1914 California Motion Picture Corporation (CMPC) production of Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch. Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch is based on a 1903 stage adaption of a novel by Alice Caldwell Hegan Rice. Three Hollywood movies were based on this novel; the most well-known premiered in 1934 and starred W. C. Fields. The CMPC released their version on December 31, 1914, starring Beatriz Michelena as Lovely Mary. Filmed at their studio in the Sun Valley neighborhood of San Rafael, Marin County, many local residents were used in the circus audience scenes. From 1914 until 1921, the CMPC produced 15 films, including Salomy Jane, which survives in its entirety in the Library of Congress archives.
