Description
Color slide of the Intel® 8088 microprocessor package. Clock speed: 5 MHz (.33 MIPS) 8 MHz (.75 MIPS). Internal architecture: 16 bits. External Bus Width: 8 bits. Transistor Count: 29,000. Chip Performance .75 MIPS (millions of instructions per second). Circuit Line Size: 3 microns. The 8086/88 microprocessors were built on 6-inch and 4-inch silicon wafers. A pivotal sale to IBM's new personal computer division made the 8088 the brains of IBM's new hit product--the IBM PC. The 8088's success propelled Intel into the ranks of the Fortune 500, and Fortune magazine named the company one of the "Business Triumphs of the Seventies."
