Description
William Pike (left), Beatriz Michelena and an unidentified actor in the California Motion Picture Corporation (CMPC) production of The Unwritten Law, 1916. This film was based on the novel of the same name by Edwin Milton Royle, which in turn was based on the true crime story of Stanford White's murder in 1906. A morality play, this film proved to be the CMPC's biggest money maker. After its initial run, it was re-edited and expanded from five reels to seven reels long and had a running time of approximately ninety minutes. The CMPC was located in the Sun Valley neighborhood of San Rafael, California between 1914 and 1921.The studio produced 15 films including Salomy Jane which survives in its entirety in the Library of Congress archives.
