Description
Made by Shigeichi Sumida while interned at Tule Lake Relocation Center. Shigeichi Sumida was originally from Sacramento, California and resided at Ward 3, Block 24, #2401-D while interned at Tule Lake. According to Mary Tsukamoto in WE THE PEOPLE: "Of all the camp activities, one of the most successful was the arts and crafts program. Though most adults had no considered themselves artists, their work was so beautiful we could hardly believe they had created everything out of scraps of wood, waste items and bits from nature . . . They mde their own tools from nails, needls, and comon household items, melted down, pounded, scraped, and filed to make just the right tool for each job."
