Description
The Larkspur Hotel, built in 1895, was a short distance from the North Coast Pacific Railroad station in Larkspur, California. The hotel, pictured here circa 1900, promoted itself as "A First Class Family Resort" with 21 rooms to rent. In 1909, new owner Gustave Nage remodeled the building with blue basalt rock pillars, and the hotel became known as the Blue Rock Inn. In the 1920s and 1930s, the hotel boasted the largest public dining room in Marin County, with fine guest accommodations on the upper floors. During WWII, the top floor of the hotel was deemed an emergency hospital. The building is currently home to the Left Bank Restaurant and is sits on the corner of Magnolia Avenue and Ward Street in Larkspur.
