Description
This photo was sent by Shigeichi Sumida to his wife, Tatsuko. The Sumida family traveled from Walerga Assembly Center to Tule Lake Relocation Center and later Shigeichi was sent to Santa Fe Internment Camp. The camp was operated by the Department of Justice and populated by Japanese American men labeled by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI ) as "dangerous enemy aliens" and troublemakers from Tule Lake. The photo was taken in order to relieve the anxieties of the wives in Tule Lake whose Issei husbands in the photo were being incarcerated at Santa Fe.
