Description
His wife sent from her home, climbed onto roof of the bank and threw on water handed him in buckets, stew pans and kettles.
This horizontal, sepia-toned photograph from approximately 1903 depicts the damaged remains of a building with thick adobe walls standing in a flat, open landscape. The central structure is a large, rectangular masonry wall with two prominent arched openings; the left arch is smaller and lower than the larger, central arch. The roof and upper sections of the building are missing, leaving charred or darkened edges along the top of the walls. To the left of the main structure, additional lower wall fragments extend into the distance. The ground in the foreground is dark and uneven, while the sky in the background is pale and clear. Below the photograph, a horizontal color calibration strip with various colored squares and a grayscale step wedge is visible against the gray mounting surface.
