Description
Five portraits of California Indians (en face, 3/4, and in profile) wearing native clothes; two types decorated with tattoos.
Printed title (LC): Habitants de Californie. Printed (LR): des[sin]é et lith[]e L. Choris. Plate number VI (UR). Numbers 1-5 identify each figure. Lithographs based on sketches made during 1816 visit to California were published in L. Choris' Voyage Pittoresque Autour du Monde (Paris: Firmin Didot, 1822). Inscriptions in French.
