Description
Captain of the steamer Independence in 1851, and a member of the San Francisco Committee of Vigilance of 1851. Author of The log of an ancient mariner : being the life and adventures of Captain Edgar Wakeman, 1878.Mary Eliza Wilson Wakeman was the daughter of San Francisco pioneer General John Wilson. Three-quarter length portrait of couple standing side-by-side. Wakeman has a beard, and is wearing a double breasted coat in which one of his hands is placed. Mrs. Wakeman (Mary Eliza Wilson Wakeman) is wearing jewelry (necklace and rings), and her hair is in ringlet curls.
