Description
Full titleDutch Harry had the letter written by Stocking to his mother in San Francisco in his pocket, in which he advised his mother, that he had friends who would pick him up at Stockton in a launch, carrying him down the river to San Francisco and for her to make all arrangements for passage on a Panama Steamer. The letter stated he would identify the launch by a white cloth wrapped around the smokestack. Plans were made by the police and Dep. Sheriff Degan to wait at Stockton but they received news that he was at Ray's house, so they went to Acampo, when the officers arrived, Stocking was in the house when the rig drove up, and climbed out of a window, but being covered by a revolver he surrendered.
