"The car windows aren't broke," said this machinists wife. "We had to put up something to keep the sun out of Daddy's eyes. He works nights and sleeps in the car days. The children and I sleep in it nights. I wish we were home again. War or no war, if I'd known there'd be no place in Richmond we could live, I just wouldn't have come. You can live like this only so long, then you can't stand it any more."
