"This is the largest and most Celebrated Vine in the world. It died and now the daughter Vine, a cutting from it, is the largest living Vine. The Queen's Vine at Hampton Court, England, ranks third. The Old Vine produced over six tons of grapes of most excellent quality annually. It is of the Mission variety brought from Spain by the early missionaries about the year 1770. Its diameter is over 18 inches, cover [sic] an area of 12,000 square feet, and is about 100 years old. Eight feet from the ground it branches out into 20 large limbs one of which is 27 inches in circumference. Its history is both interesting and romantic. It was the riding whip of Maria Marcelina de Dominquez, a young Spanish Lady, presented to her by her lover. She planted, reared and watched over it, till the day of her death in 1865, at the advanced age of 110 years
