Signs on buildings in foreground read "Sherman & Ruckel," "P.M.S.S. Co.," and "S.H. Williams & Co." Ships in bay, one on fire (names identified in legend); Yerba Buena Island at right. Several tents among buildings and small military camp in right foreground.
