Louane was the director of the Petaluma Public Library (Petaluma, California) before she served as armed services librarian for both the U.S. Army and Navy. She later became a professor on the faculty of the University of Iowa's School of Library and Information Science. Her personal papers are open for research at the Iowa Women's Archives, 100 Main Library, University of Iowa Libraries, Iowa City, IA 52242.
