Description
All dressed up for a picnic trip to the tules in 1894, judging by the duck hunting rifles carried by the young men. The party of picnickers in the spring wagon include (left to right) Jennie Dixon, Dan Crosby, Mila Rix, Edith Johnson, Ezra Decoto, and Matt Dixon. Julia Rix and Helen Rix are in the two wheeled horse cart. Miss Dixon later married Daniel Crosby. In the 1890s, Daniel taught at Washington Public School in Irvington and supported his brother Peter through law school. Peter Crosby returned the favor and supported Daniel as he later studied medicine and became a doctor. With their husky older brother Henry, they dominated local baseball, boxing and bicycling in the 1890s. Peter Crosby's Oakland law firm Crosby, Heafey, Roach and May is part of an international legal firm today, acquired by Reed Smith in 2003.
