Description
The first guidebook for the San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park documents the natural history of the San Pasqual Valley, located southeast of the city of Escondido and now an agricultural preserve. It identifies many plants in the area, native fauna and local ecology. A map and images document the Wild Animal Park soon after its opening in 1972. The Nairobi Village insert depicts the original motifs, rustic structures, events, areas, and activities, evoking the influence of other Southern California theme parks. The cover features a photograph of two white rhinos wading in the mud.
