Description
This book documents the activities of the Sierra Club's second annual Base Camp outing held from July 26-August 9, 1941 at Garnet Lake in what is now the Ansel Adams Wilderness region of Inyo National Forest. It documents the activities of the trip, including 'frequent sessions in botany, geology, glaciology, bird study, astronomy, photography, camping, rock climbing and mountaineering, map reading, and even skiing.' Additionally, over 500 specimens of plants and fossils were collected to be donated to the California Academy of Sciences and 'two of the three unmapped Banner glaciers were studied and surveyed.' In addition to scientific documentation, the book also contains original contributions from trip participants, including theatrical scripts, poetry, drawings, and personal accounts. The book also contains a map of the Garnet Lake region and two photographs from the trip.
