Description
Color photo of king vulture on cover with orange lettering on a black background, "San Diego Zoo." Documents the founding of the Zoological Society of San Diego and the San Diego Zoo's early growth and development in San Diego's Balboa Park. The San Diego Zoological Gardens are unique in providing year round outdoor animal exhibits in Balboa Park. Admission costs 75 cents for adults, but children up to 16 years and all San Diego City and County high school students with a valid I.D. card are admitted free. The guide includes the Children's Zoo, reptiles, mammals, and birds sections, as well as a new section entitled History, Services and Membership. This new section includes the Zoo's dedication to children, insight to the Biological Research Insitute and the Zoological Hospital, the unique setting at the Zoo, the Zoo school, publication and membership, as well as information on how to give bequests to the zoo. Trained animal acts are presented in the Wegeforth Bowl, named for the Zoo's founder, on the A-Mesa daily. This edition includes a fold-out map attached to the back cover by R.W. Schulteis, as well as the Sketch Map of the San Diego Zoological Garden.
