In 1962 Applied Oceanography Group (AOG) at Scripps Institution of Oceanography leased this DC-3 airplane and it would later be given to them for continued research. This photo shows the infrared radiometer mounted to the bottom of the plane to measure heat flow from the ocean. With the airplane it was possible to survey 10,000 square miles of sea surface in 24 hours. Circa 1965
