Joaquim “Quim” Boix nació en 1945 en Barcelona. Quim relata que sus padres fueron maestros durante la Segunda República y la dictadura. Describe sus experiencias en la escuela pública y el Lycée Français de Barcelone. Quim destaca que, a diferencia de las escuelas secundarias españolas, en el Lycée Français a él y sus compañeros se les impulsaba a pensar críticamente. Nota la participación de su hermano en el movimiento Comunista durante la dictadura. Quim explica que aunque sus padres no querían que participara en la lucha anti-Franquista, él también se unió al movimiento Comunista. Cuenta que estudió en la Universidad de Barcelona y ayudó a formar el Sindicato Democrático de Estudiantes de la Universidad de Barcelona (SDEUB) en 1966. Quim narra su experiencia durante la Caputxinada, los tres días cuando él y otros estudiantes, profesores, e intelectuales se encerraron en el convento de Sarrià después de haber tratado de redactar la constitución del SDEUB. Quim detalla la fuerte represión que siguió. Recuerda que a resultado de su militancia política, fue enviado al Sahara en 1968 para completar el servicio militar. Quim recuenta las tensiones internas que marcaron al Partido Comunista de España (PCE) durante la Transición, su expulsión del PCE, y su participación en la creación del Partido Comunista de los Pueblos de España. Joaquim "Quim" Boix was born in 1945 in Barcelona. Quim relates that his parents were teachers during the Second Republic and the dictatorship. He describes his experiences in public school and at the Lycée Français de Barcelone. Quim emphasizes that, unlike in Spanish secondary schools, at the Lycée Français he and his classmates were encouraged to think critically. He notes his brother's involvement in the Communist movement during the dictatorship. Quim explains that he also joined the Communist movement, despite his parents' objection to his participation in the anti-Francoist struggle. He recounts studying at the University of Barcelona and helping create the Sindicato Democrático de Estudiantes de la Universidad de Barcelona (Democratic Students' Union of the University of Barcelona, SDEUB) in 1966. Quim narrates his experience during the Caputxinada, the three days when he, fellow students, professors, and intellectuals were locked in the convent of Sarrià following their attempt to draft the SDEUB's constitution. He details the strong repression that ensued. Quim recalls being sent to the Sahara in 1968 to complete his military service, as a result of his political militancy.
