Description
YES campaign: Patricio Bañados delivers historical footage of himself (younger) reporting on the adoration of Pinochet during visits to remote provinces. The segment cuts to present-day (1988) Patricio Bañados saying good night. Testimonies of YES supporters speaking favorably of the Pinochet regime. Hernan Buchi speaks about youth and the importance of maintaining Chile's economic progress. Chileans should vote YES or they will throw their lives away. Supporters of YES. Doña Maria explains that women and children suffered from rations and poverty before Pinochet. It is dangerous to vote NO because the opposition is faceless and unknown. Pinochet will preside over a new democracy built based on progress, liberty, and justice. Nora Vargas recounts her experience of terrorists detonating a bomb that left her an invalid. NO campaign: Patricio Bañados states that culture and art need peace and liberty for manifestation. Claudio Arrau, pianist, performs. 10 million Chileans rely on the public health system and they experience long wait times and costly charges for medical services. Dr. Jorge Jiménez discusses the differences between private and public health care and states that currently, modern, fast medical service only exists for the wealthy. He advocates for better medical services for all Chileans by voting NO. An overview of Pinochet's many titles. Display of Valparaíso poverty and living conditions. Belisario Velasco speaks about promoting the NO campaign in all regions of Chile. Footage of a Chilean working informal jobs to make ends meet. Tomas Hirsch states that Chile cannot return to the past of exile, torture, and violence. Young people focus on the future, not the past.
