Description
This dataset contains raw and quality controlled (QC'ed) instrument data from moorings deployed in the Solomon Sea in July 2012 until March 2014 as a part of the Southwest Pacific Circulation and Climate Experiment (SPICE). The data include temperature, salinity, velocity and pressure measurements from instruments deployed across eight locations on nine moorings. A detailed description of each mooring's instrument configuration, data recovery, and quality control procedure is detailed in the SPICE Mooring Data Report (https://escholarship.org/uc/item/6xd149s8). Raw data for each mooring is organized by instrument type with all data and metadata files, mooring diagrams, and magnetic declinations provided. Additionally, instrument manuals and MATLAB scripts for reading in the raw data are included to facilitate the use of the raw data files. Please refer to the Raw Data README for additional information. Individual MATLAB MAT-files (.mat) are provided for each quality controlled instrument and organized by mooring using the following filename convention: Mooring_InstrumentType_SerialNumber_PlannedDepthInMeters_QualityControlLevel.mat Quality control levels will either be 0 or 1, with 0 indicating basic quality control and 1 indicates a higher level of quality control from the use of pre- and post-deployment calibration. Refer to the SPICE Mooring Data Report for the full discussion of the QC process and the QC Data README for an outline of the file contents. These data are provided as-is. We do our best to provide high-quality, complete data but make no guarantees as to the presence of errors within the data themselves or the algorithms used in the generation of derived parameters. It is the user's responsibility to ensure that the data meets the user's needs. However, please report any observed discrepancies in the data to the contact listed below and we will do our best to fix them.
Note: Authors using Solomon Sea SPICE Mooring data should acknowledge that "The moorings deployments and recoveries were made possible through concurrent contributions of national funding agencies. The MoorSPICE and Pandora cruises have been co-funded by NSF grant OCE1029487, and by ANR project ANR-09-BLAN-0233-01 and INSU/LEFE project Solwara (IDAO and CYBER). The CASSIOPEE cruise has been funded by LEFE/IMAGO ZEBRE project." In addition, users should reference the appropriate data DOI, as listed on each page under Cite This Work, and the appropriate publications, as listed on each page under Related Publications and/or Methods.
