Description
The 2002 California Tobacco Survey (CTS) was the six in a series of cross-sectional studies to collect information about tobacco use and behaviors among California adults and teenagers. It was sponsored by the State of California's Department of Health Services (DHS) under subcontract with the University of California at San Diego (UCSD). Westat Inc. was subcontracted to conduct this survey as well as the 1990-1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, and 1999 surveys. Three instruments were used in the 2002 CTS: Screener Interview, Extended Adult Interview, and Extended Youth Interview. Data collection for this CTS began in late September 2002 and was completed in early February 2003. The objective of this survey was to collect representative statewide data on tobacco-related behaviors, knowledge and attitudes towards smoking, and monitoring the effect of programs on individual target populations. These data are used by the California DHS to plan and assess the effectiveness of smoking cessation strategies. Research Data Curation Program, UC San Diego, La Jolla, 92093-0175 (https://lib.ucsd.edu/rdcp) For more information on this collection, contact Dr. Wael Al-Delaimy at waldelaimy@ucsd.edu These data are to be used only for the purpose of health statistical reporting and analysis. Participants in the surveys have been assured confidentiality; no effort should be made to determine the identity of any participant(s). Data used in published works or any form of public dissemination should acknowledge the California Tobacco Survey as the original source. The suggested citation, "Source: California Tobacco Survey, (year)", should appear at the bottom of all tables and figures. Published or publicly disseminated data must also include a disclaimer that credits any analyses, interpretations, or conclusions reached to the author and not to the California Tobacco Control Program or the University of California. Users who wish to publish a technical description of the data should make a reasonable effort to insure that the description is not inconsistent with that provided by the survey authors. Telephone interview and survey conducted approximately every three years; samples of the California telephone household population drawing from Random Digit Dial (RDD) samples by Westat, Incorporated.
