After childbirth, the mother and baby are in a taboo state and remain in a birth area in the forest below the hamlet. Men may not see the pair. The mother's needs are taken care of by a younger woman. Over several weeeks, desacralization rituals take place which let the mother and child go to the menstrual hut area and then later back to the family area.
