Sherman George Greg Durbin
Description
Film, Audio, Video and Digital Art Humanities and Social Sciences Jim stands at base of windmill and describes how water is present out here at the desert. Back in Sherman’s truck, “This is the start of the bombing range itself. The runway is right ahead to do the bombing.” Campbell points out different targets laying about—old trucks, “remains of a helicopter over there,” G.E. engine. “Benson boys are a couple of range runners who were out here…would run whenever they had to feed a habit.” Jim points out different types of bombs on the ground—small, blue dummy bomb; “Bombs aren’t that accurate unless you have a smart bomb and it’s guided.” He continues to describe the bombing range, bombing procedures, salvage value, etc. while on the range during this tape. Variety in B-roll of bombs, former targets, craters, rusted shells, and old helicopters in the foreground of the taped image are in contrast to this picturesque and peaceful April day with mountains in background. Video is good for duration of tape, but since Jim is walking around quite a bit while pointing out areas of the bombing range the audio is weak at times since he is away from the mic.
