Francisco “Paco” Marín nació en 1923 en Sevilla y es el mayor de siete hijos. Paco describe su relación cercana con su padre. Nota que empezó a trabajar en una fábrica con su padre a los trece años. Paco recuenta el secuestro de su padre a manos de fuerzas Franquistas y el descubrimiento de su asesinato años después. Cuenta que vivió en condiciones de pobreza durante gran parte de su juventud y trabajó turnos largos en la fábrica para sacar adelante a su familia. Paco evitó involucrarse en actividades políticas para no abandonar a su familia y no se unió al Partido Comunista de España hasta después de la muerte de Franco. Explica los efectos psicológicos que la represión Franquista tuvo sobre su madre y sus hermanos menores, quienes estaban traumados por la muerte de su padre y la continua violencia después de la Guerra Civil, y sobre sus propios dos hijos, quienes nacieron después de que él se casó en 1951. Paco recuerda muchos ejemplos distintos de la represión y las luchas entre los ricos y los pobres. Detalla la historia de la Falange y de las figuras principales de la Guerra Civil, incluyendo el papel de la iglesia y del gobierno estadounidense. Francisco "Paco" Marín was born in 1923 in Sevilla and is the oldest of seven children. Paco describes his close relationship with his father. He tells of starting to work in a factory with his father at age thirteen. Paco recounts his father's abduction by Francoist forces and the discovery of his murder years later. He discusses living in poverty throughout much of his youth and working long shifts at the factory to support his family. Paco avoided becoming politically involved so as not to abandon his family and did not join the Communist Party of Spain until after Franco's death. He explains the psychological effects that the Francoist repression had on his mother and younger siblings, who were traumatized by the loss of his father and the continued violence after the Civil War, and on his own two children, born after he married in 1951. Paco recalls many different examples of the repression and the struggles between the rich and the poor. He details the history of the Falange and the key figures of the Civil War, including the role of the church and the U.S. government.
