He was one of the first Black fencers in UC San Diego history and now teaches classes at the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Schell tells us what life at UC San Diego was like in the 1970s and how he discovered the sport. Later, in our Campus Spotlight, Jenny has a conversation with political science department chair Thad Kousser who reflects on his time as part of the fact finding committee that helped pave the way for the Tritons' move to Division I.
