More from Jim Campbell on life at the Slabs. “In the summer I can take the heat…I don’t care about air conditioning, but this year I may put in air conditioning.” “You know the slabs have been declining the past several years. if they make it a campground, it will die a natural death.” Assorted B-roll and cutaways of Jim’s electronic chassis, parts, reclining chairs and plastic chairs which are strewn in the vicinity of his bunker area. Camera pans and zooms about while looking for different shots. Jim sorts though panels—“If you want to get paid once a year, you ship a 1000 pounds of that and you make $15-20,000.” Good story from Campbell about being 5 years old and being with his father on the salt flats while working pumps. “I learned about scrap from an old Mexican, then when I went to read I learned where the gold was.” Cutaways of Jim’s bunker are good as they document his living arrangement in the desert area. Technically, this is the strongest of three Campbell tapes (188-190).
