Description
Young Mariet wears shell bead necklaces and a burao skirt, specially created for her participation in a recently resurrected traditional ritual for women and girls. The burao skirt was not a traditional form of dress but a missionary innovation inspired by cloth shortages during World War II. Burao is a variety of hibiscus.
