Large ship with mast is the yacht "Loma", given to the Marine Biological Association of San Diego by E.W. Scripps. Scripps installed a gasoline engine and scientific apparatus. He reserved the right to make personal use of the yacht when he had need of it. The Association became the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Circa 1904
