The research vessel Horizon of the University of California's Scripps Institution of Oceanography is a converted Navy sea-going tug. She is 143 feet long an has a cruising range of approximagely 6,800 miles. Accomodations are available for 27 scientists and crew members. Operated by the University since 1949, Horizon has participated in many of the oceanographic-biological survey cruises carried out under the California Cooperative Oceanic Fisheries Investigations
