Description
Xu Xing is an acclaimed writer and independent documentary film director who has won numerous international prizes. He is often called "The Chinese Jack Kerouac." His avant-garde novels, short stories and plays of the 1980s inspired a new generation of young Chinese. He lived in exile in Germany after the June 4th, 1989 Incident in Tiananmen Square but returned to China in the 1990s. I spent time with Xu Xing and Yang Lina (female documentary film director) on several occasions from 2001 to 2003 . This photograph was taken while I had dinner with Xu Xing and his friend Andrea Cavazzuti who was a cinematographer for Chinese films.
